My life began in Northwest Indiana in 1989 and for the past 27 years I can say 'the region' has been by home. During the course of my life I have experienced my share of accomplishments and my share of adversities. Like you, I have faced challenges along with many of the same decisions that our generations both young and old are faced with. In those circumstances, I've found my way to over come all obstacles.
Being a resident of Hammond my entire life I've learned the importance of being a community member. My parents, Vikki and Peter Kallas both life long residents of Hammond, owned and operated Dun-Right Dry Cleaners from 1998-2008 where my twin brother William and I were actively involved by being Co-Vice Presidents. They raised us both to be active community members whether it was with the family business, church, or extra curricular activities in school. I attended school in my hometown of Hammond and am a graduate of Gavit High School Class of 2008.
Like many others, immediately upon graduation I enlisted in the United States Army, where I served one deployment in Kandahar, Afghanistan between 2010-2011. In 2016, I was honorably discharged from the United States Army with the rank of Sergeant. During the course of my Army career I maintained my education and received a degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in Computer Information Technology.
I'm currently a member of the United Steelworkers Local 6787 at ArcelorMittal Burns Harbor since 2013.
I'm currently the Chairman for the Hammond Republican Party, Hammond Republican Committeeman and actively attend Hammond Council meetings. Our family supports local charities and we do our best to give back to the community we live in. I'm a dedicated, hardworking and loyal man who feels that failure happens when we stop trying to achieve greatness.
In addition to my career the most success I've had is with my family. Together, my wife Kelly and I have 2 sons, Charles II, and Theo. My wife is a life long resident of Hammond and Purdue Calumet graduate. She has been right by my side the last 10 years while continuing to show her support everyday.
Kelly knows the struggles many families go through because she sees it first hand as a registered nurse with Franciscan Alliance. Her steady guide is true inspiration to continuing to help and serve the community in the best possible manner. Kelly and I strive to ensure that the place we raise our children is a place where we never doubt their will-being and security of self that they are receiving.
On May 28, 2008 Charles enlisted into the United States Army. After completing BCT at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and AIT at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Charles was attached to the 656th Transportation Company in Hobart, Indiana.
In 2010 Charles deployed with the 656th TC to Kandahar, Afghanistan for the duration of a year. While in Afghanistan Charles logged over 8,000 miles in nearly 120 missions.
After 8 years of service, in 2016 Charles received an honorable discharge from the United States Army. He was also awarded the following throughout his years of service:
